OOC: Rome! Conquest of the Ancient World
The glory of the Rome, the Republic. It is 100 BC and Rome is at war. At war with stinking Gaul. Gaul, not to mention also the Spanish, and the Germanic tribes of Germania. And also trying to conquer Greece, the Athenians and their navy from Athens are worthy adversaries, the Spartans are little more than a nuisance, we must send a thousand men to conquer this city state of Sparta. The Greek peninsula can be dealt with later, now we must conquer Gaul, Spain, and Germania, and all who stand in our way!. Mars will smile upon us for centuries to come!
Rome, it was the greatest empire on earth, lasting from 9th century BC to 4th century BC, two thousand years. The empire originated from a small city-state called Rome on the Italian peninsula. Rome had many enemies, from Hannibal and his Carthaginians, to Gaul and their Gaulic people, to the Huns and the Visagoths and Ostrigoths. Rome was the center of the civilized world. Having plumbing, running water, public baths, and paved roads, to sewer systems. The coliseum didn’t begin till about 45th BC, when the Caesar wanted to control the population from revolts and revolutions. To contrary belief, gladiators rarely died, for it was too expensive to replace a gladiator slave. In the early days of Rome it was a monarchy, where two kings were voted into office, for the rest of their lives, two kings to make sure the other didn’t get too powerful. Then it went to a oligarchy republic, in which they used religion and republic-democracy to rule, when Julius Caesar came ‘round, he turned it into a dictatorship, or Emperor - Caesar is Latin. At this point in the rp it’s still a republic.
Military:
The Roman army is a marvel of discipline; it is the best army of its time but not for any normal reasons. There are many enemies of Rome. Rome faces enemies who have better skilled warriors than the Roman Legionnaire, some of these enemies even have the advantage of superior numbers; but yet the Roman Legionaries win through. The Roman army owes a lot of its success to its brilliant generals, but no general can command an army that doesn't obey him.
Roman legionaries have comparatively less skill at fighting than most of their opponents, they also have less of the impetuous spirit that make their Celtic enemies so fearsome. But with their little swords and unwieldy shields they can defeat all but the most fearsome and determined of barbarian tribes.
Military Terms:
Hastati- The youngest Roman soldiers, equipped with the most basic of equipment.
Weapons: Bronze short sword of about 20-24 inches long, and 3 pila, or javelin to throw before a charge.
Armor: The most basic and weakest of leather armor, usually studded leather, and hardened. Tower Shield to block against arrows and help form the Testudo formation. And a bronze helmet, with no faceplate, standard roman helmet.
-----------------------------------------------------
Principes- A step above the Hastati, these are the men who are more experienced in fighting than the Hastati. These men have better equipment.
Weapons: A shortsword, and four pila.
Armor: usually leather armor breastplate, with an outer bronze metal shell, a tower shield, and basic roman helmet.
-------------------------------------------------
Triarii- The most skilled of Roman warriors during 100-50 BC, armed with the best equipment.
Weapons: An iron shortsword, and a wooden spear, with a bronze point, usually about 61/2 - 6’8’’ long, for a Phalanx formation against cavalry.
Armor: Bronze breastplate, standard roman shield, and helmet.
------------------------------------------------
Roman Cavalry- Light but tough cavalry soldiers. Fast but not very well armored.
Weapons: A short sword, and usually a 7 foot spear.
Armor: A small round wooden buckler, and leather armor like what Hastati would wear. No helmet.
----------------------------------------------------
General’s Bodyguard- Consists of the most skilled and the most loyal of the general’s troops, the same unit that guard the general. Usually mounted on horse, and using spear weapons, they have the best equipment that the triarri don’t have.
Weapons: a 2’4’’ shortsword, and a seven foot spear.
Armor: leather tunic, with a leather breastplate. A bronze large round shield, and standard roman helmet.
-------------------------------------------------------
Peasants- These men are forced into the military, and are usually used to push siege towers, or rams into position. These men aren’t brave, and don’t have any military training. They must arm themselves, and usually wear cloth, sometimes weak chain mail.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Centurion- leader of a legion or a hundred men, sometimes less men.
Legion: Usually 82-101 men, one of each number is the Centurion. Sometimes it’s only 32 men in a legion.
Caesar- Emperor of Rome.
Pila- Javelin
Gladius- Short sword.
Gaul- Gaul engulfs the now modern day country of France.
Germania- Germania is roughly the same place where Germany is today.
Spain- same as today.
These three cultures are barbarians.
Greeks- The greeks at the moment are unified and are in a stalemate with Rome. The Spartans and the Roman legions gain and lose ground.
Roman Empire, currently just the Italian peninsula.

Metals:
Bronze: Made by mixing tin and copper, to make a more durable and pliable metal. A sword many than 3 feet long is very brittle, and breaks easily.
Iron: Hard to forge, but is possible. Only the most skilled troops possess iron weapons, usually are heavy two handed longswords.
Calindornyte: A reddish-orange metal, extremely light, and very hard, it keeps its edge forever, and is only given to someone by the gods, or by a dragon. It is able to make certain gems and rocks, and minerals so they enchant the weapon to do many different things when socketed into the pommel or blade. This metal, when forged cannot be re-forged or melted.
Cats Eye Agate: lets its bearer see in the dark.
Ember: Gives the sword or weapon the abilitiy to cut through many things, and the wielder the ability to control the element of fire.

Politician: A person to deal with politics, usually a senator.
General: Commander of about six or more legions.
Common soldier: A legionnaire in a legion.
Commoner: A common citizen of Rome.
There are many more, like carpenter, leather worker etc etc.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Class structure:
Roman society was strictly hierarchical, with slaves (servî) at the bottom, freedmen (liberî) above them, and free-born citizens (civçs) at the top.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Races:
Humans: Humans are the most common.
Half Gods: Are rare, and far apart. Some having the strength of twenty men, some having some other super human power. Have immortal life, but can be mortally killed. PM me to play as one.
Half Dragons: These people look completely human except for a few abnormalities, such as Odd hair color, and eye color usually color of their dragon parent. They DO NOT breathe fire. Other than strange hair and eye color they look completely human. But they usually have the strength of four men, and their skin is as tough as the toughest of leather armors. They are widely accepted into any culture, for they are essential to have in an army, any general commanding a lot of legions wants at least one half dragon. For these people have immortal life, but they can be mortally killed. Since they are normally born from eggs, dragon eggs to be precise, they usually have many brothers and sisters. Normally wielding Calindornyte weapons, they are formidable opponents. They sometimes use the metal for armor, but can only use it as breastplates. PM me to play as these.
I’m not allowing dragons as a race, as they’re too powerful.
Centaur: These are creature that have a human torso, and head where a horse's head should be on a horse's body, they can run faster than all the other races, and can carry just as much as a horse, but when it comes to wielding weapons they're just as strong as a normal human. They live in forests and plains.
Satyr: Having the body of a human, and the legs of a goat, these things are peaceful, usually using the pipes instument. Or a small harp. Their instruments are usually enchanted to befriend animals, or put something to sleep. They are good spies. The only race that their enchantments don't work on are Half Dragons.
Harpy: Looking like a cross-breed of a bat, a human, and a bird. These things are vicious and down right mean. Instead of arms they have bat-like wings, their feet are like that of humans but with elongated toes with talons, they can pick things up with their feet and they're covered with sacles and feathers. They are normaly evil.
Mer People: Having the torso of a human, and the tail of a fish, these people live under the water. They tend to seduce sailors, or save them depending on the mermaid. Mermen are the warriors and will often come out of their watery homes and onto land, taking human form and using their tridents to raid towns and villages. Mermaids are also called Sirens, the only races they cannot seduce are half gods and half dragons.
Gorgon/Medusas: These things are hideous, having the torso of a human, the tail of a snake, and snakes for hair. these things have scales, and fangs. The mere look of one can turn a man to stone. They are all female, they are rare, and cursed by Hera, a greek goddess when the woman says they're more beautiful than herself. PM me to be this kind of character. The race not affected by their gaze are Half Gods.

Hey
Wow, it really looks like you've done your research for this one! As a history major, I have to say that I'm impressed and would love to have the opportunity to join if that's alright. If the answer is yes, I should have a character ready for you by sometime next week (going out of town this weekend).

Character Bio: Brennus
Name: Brennus (to his Roman fellow soldiers, his true, Celtic name is Conri).
Age: appears to be between 25 and 29, however, his true age is unknown
Race: Human (of the Gaulic tribes)
Gender: Male
Deity: Morrigan, celtic goddess of battle/war, magic, fate and prophesy
Proffession(Smithy, leatherworker etc etc.): weaponry/metalworking and leather working, hunting
Appearance: 6'2", deceptively slim, but broad-shouldered and built. He has bright, blue eyes and a very tan complexion. On his arms and thighs he has various rune-like tattoos, similar to those found on statues of Morrigan and thought to possess a magical protective quality. There is also one of these on his face around his right eye and cheek bone, his hands, and one on the left side of his neck. He has long black hair that he keeps pulled back only when wearing his helmet (which he actually has to be reminded to wear at times). In random places on his body (mostly on his right side) there are various burn-scars from the conflict that brought him to the Roman side. These can be found on his hands, the right-hand side of his torso, a tiny bit beside and above his right eye and right cheek bone (if you can spot them under the tattoo ink) and various other places.
Attire: loose, desleeved shirt (sometimes), short-like pants that go to his knees, a cloak of some strange hide-like material and thick, boots made of the same animal hide, but covered in metal, rather like gauntlets for a one's feet or something. He also wears leather gloves that he has studded on the knuckles and fingers with metal- almost like an early gauntlet of sorts.
Armor: leather bracers, studded with metal along the edges, bronze breastplate and shoulder-guards, a thick leather and metal belt aroudn the middle, and thinner bronze shin-guards. He also carries a large round shield (bronze probably) with a Celtic rune designed round the symbol of Rome.
Weapon: He carries two spears, (representative of the goddess Morrigan) and a Calindornyte sword (Celtic in design, not Roman) with sapphire and cat's eye agate, all of which were given to him by the goddess Morrigan.
Military standing (If your in the military): Triarii
Personality: Being of Gaulic (Celtic) blood, Brennus has seen his share of battle and it has left its mark upon him. Off the battlefield he is a kind but quiet and cautious person who does not easily allow himself to become too close to anyone too readily. A thoughtful, experienced and insightful soldier, he is able to lend his wisdom when he feels it should be shared, whether the situation be military or simply conversational. ON the battlefield he is known to be less cautious, wielding his twin spears with a wild skill and ruthlessness native to his heritage, but as his fellow soldiers have noted, he also retains a certain amount of resolve and patience.
Other (Anything I forgot goes here): History (BRIEF): Brennus, as has been stated, is of Gaulic heritage. He was the king of one of the many troublesome Celtic tribes and managed successfully to keep the Romans out of his territory by some diplomatic and some forceful means. As he told the Romans, all that he wanted was peace for his people, while still maintaining their freedom from Rome. Based on the agreement that he made with the Roman general at that time he declined when asked by his fellow kings to join the fight against Rome, even when they persisted. Eventually, they came to view it as treachery and deciding to gain control of his warriors for their fight against the Romans, called him for a meeting where they ambushed him, poured alcohol (probably wine) on him and set him and the rest of the building ablaze and left. He came to, barely escaped only to be hunted from his own country and into enemy lands where he collapsed and came to again in the same Roman general's tent. Being abandoned by his own people and hunted by teh other kings he has decided to stay with the Romans until the conflict is resolved. He always wanted a peace between himself and Rome, and in an indirect way has it.
(Sorry this is so very long! I was developing him as I went and didn't realize how much I had written until it was done!)

Name: Brearios of the Firefang Clan
Age: 107
Race: Half-Dragon
Gender: Male
Deity: Ceres
Proffession: Military Tactician
Appearance: Brearios has flaming red hair that he often crops short so it won't make him a target on the battlefield. He, however, does not show is many battles because of his inability to scar. He stands at a normal height for humans and does not make an imposing figure from afar, but he is a danger on the field.
Attire: When not preparing for war, he simply wears a red tunic and pant-leggings. He always carries his sword around. Sometimes, if he is trying to appeal to the court, he wears a gold circlet, but otherwise does not wear any jewelry.
Armor: Brearios has blood red armor that he started out dying the color red but after a while, he just stopped buffing the blood out of it. He keeps it clean and well-mainained but he lets the sight of a blood-stained knight rattle the foes. He carries a Calindornyte shield named Andune(awn-doo-nee) which means sunset after the motif on the shield. It has several ember gems engraved into the front that causes a fire wall or shield to leap out and scare the enemy.
Weapon: A beautiful silver-red weapon that is slightly curved, it is thicker than a katana, but not as big as a great sword. Its name is Feallach (fee-ah-lock) and it was passed down to Brearios from the Firefang Clan. It is supposedly an ancient weapon but Brearios thinks otherwise because of its gleam and edge. He took it in a swordfight against a Calindornyte sword and it cleaved its top edge off, but also severly shocked him and he lost control of his hands for a week. It also has several ember gems for ehanced fire-power. It isn't called the Spirit of the leaping flame for nothing.
Military standing (If your in the military): Centurion
Citizen standing (If you’re a citizen of Rome): he isn't really from Rome, but he is considered a free-born.
Personality: Brearios is quite cold, ironic due to his fiery waepons and tactuics. He was born to do battle, and was raised like thats well. He did not have a normal child-hood, but he does not let that get to him. He has never lost a battle but his last killed his entire legion except him. He is now even colder.
Other (Anything I forgot goes here): The Firefang Clan is shrouded in mystery, not much is known about it except it produces fighters of extraordniary ability. Brearios seems to have been cast out. Breaking a rule? Or was he simply not good enough...

Waaaaiiiit. I would like to join, yes! And I'm using my own character sheet, if that's alright ;D
Name: Kato
Pronunciation: Kay-toe
Gender: Male
Race: Human (for the most part)
Age: 21
Personality: Lively and fun to be around, but defends himself, his family and his rights viciously. Loves to argue.
Appearance: Normal height, has medium length black hair with midnight-blue highlights. Wears a choker-collar made of rope with a mossy-green gem on the end, bound to the rope by a spiral wound around it. He refuses to give any information on the gem, and will kill anyone who even thinks of stealing it. Has slightly pointed ears, but you wouldn't notice them unless you knew they were there. He wears whatever is available for clothing.
Abilities:
Sickness(s): None
History: (If you havn't noticed, most of my characters have abusive, horrid backgrounds, and Kato is no acception)
Companions: Zalika, Kato's mount. She is basically a dapple-grey Andalusian with wings. Her tail is that of a lion, but with feathers on the end, rather than fur. Zalika's hooves are silvery-gold, her mane is darkish grey, and her wing and tail feathers are sky blue. She has a brand on her left flank in the shape of a crescent moon that molds into a flame on the top. Bridle made for a unicorn, so there's a star-shaped 'tassle' below her forelock, and she has a normal horse saddle. (jeebus, there's more information for the mount than the character )
