So, yeah, thinking of making one, not sure which I should go for.

I like full-out gladiator style battles. I mean, yeh, magic is fun to have, but many of the rps on this site included magic. And the few others are sci-fi. I just like the idea of swords only because it would be a change of pace. The cloe combat would call for more creativity and faster action, especially since you can't just stand to the side and cast spells or shoot people.

That's what I was thinking of when I made the option.

Looks like you're outnumbered though, for now, looks like Swords and Sorcery is in the lead.

(I didn't vote, being the original poster, and unsure what the audience/players wanted. )

But the question is: Who voted and why? Plus, if you started the rp, would they actually join and commit to it?

Okay, that's more than a question, but still. . .

i agreed with ersska because creative style swords could be used without a easy escape
To the well organized mind death is but the next great adventure

I like the magic thrown in usually though i like to limit how much i can do with it and usually don't use it that often in a battle scene
I would leap at the chance to play just swords w/o magic but as you asked which i would prefer...

BTW no option for Magic/Scifi (ie magic and science both matured at same time)

I personally like the mix between weapon and magic only because if you put yourself to a limit to where you don't blast away your enemy it's actually fun and creative. You could also have both creative style weapons and creative powers that go with them. Not to forget that there is an endless supply of combinations you could use between your weapons and your spells. So no matter what no one could possibly ever have the same ability's as the other.

I marked magic and swords but I was rally torn between the most futuristic option and it. I've always seen magic as a tool akin to a weapon. For example I have a favorite combat style which is almost completly melee but uses nothing but magic. It works using 2 orbs of compressed energy that can be shaped into weapons. They float about the weilder. a general combo would be something like 1st orbe becomes a sword and swings horizontally at chest level as the 2nd orb becomes a sword stabbing toward the gut, the weilder spins and the 1st orb spins about the weilder transforming into a scythe slashing at chest level, 2nd orb comes blasts the target point blank with a direceted minor explosion of energy and then both orbs fly behind weilder combining and froming into a giant hammer coming strait down from over head.

it has its pros and cons but its what i've always enjoyed, I even created a DnD 3.5 class bassed off of it.

At Ire: Yeah, I thought about a science fiction with magic combo, but as Larry Niven once said, "Any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology." Many, many books have explored how much the line is blurred between high science fiction and fantasy, so I kind of rolled them into each other. The low science fiction would be more like present-day, and frankly, I'm glad no one voted for it, because I don't find it that fun.

So, vote's not over with, but I'm getting an idea of what setting we want, and the limits to set in place.

I chose "Swords and Sorcery."

I have an elven werewolf character in another RP on another Forum who uses a fighting style that's a mix of might and magic. He's brutal in his fights, and my descriptions can get a bit graphic with him, but he's fun and his fights are fast paced and well detailed. (At least I think so...)
