HTTYD 2
It has come to my attention that... Oh screw the formalities, the teaser/trailer for How To Train Your Dragon 2 came out a few days ago!!! If you liked the first movie, you should watch it and if you don't then what the heck is wrong with you? I'll try to post a link once I find the URL, but until then just search" httyd 2 trailer"on YouTube. Its almost impossible to click the wrong one cuz every nerd-boy and his brother have posted a copy. I downloaded it and watched it like fifteen times!
PS: this thread is also a place to comment on the video for people like me who don't have a YouTube account!

Re: HTTYD 2
This is just awesome! I loved the first movie in this series. I wont spoil this by watching the trailer, so I don't know what it's about. But I'm sure they'll nail it this time too.
The only thing I have to complain about, something I always complain about, is dragons that don't have the wing size required for them to fly. I have yet to see a mainstream dragon that has, so I guess I might just be a bit biased towards the huge size (see my recent artwork).

I've yet to actually watch it. Maybe when my parents bring my TV down when they come to see me at university...

The first season's on YouTube and a bunch of anime sites. If you're quick you can find the premier on YouTube before the copyright people start deleting stuff.

I just found out that the release date for HTTYD 2 is July 2014. The wait is killing me. But I'm determined not to spoil the movie at all.

It doesn't spoil anything important, but it does make the wait harder.

TBH the rules of thread necromancy hardly apply when a post can be dead for over a year and still be on the first page.
The first HTTYD both disappointed and cheered me. I was convinced before watching it that it was going to be a colossal waste of my time, but my ex got it for me as a present so I watched it with her.
What I was afraid would happen but DIDN'T:
* Dragons would be cute cuddly little pets without any danger to them.
* They would be able to talk but say really retarded stuff.
* They would be *MAGICAL* *glitter dust flying everywhere*
What I was afraid would happen that DID:
* Wing size would be screwed up. Toothless was pretty spot on and the whole tail thing was cool, but *SPOILER ALERT* the end dragon made me cringe.
* Dragons would really just be misunderstood and everyone would just be friends in the end.
What happened (for better or worst) that I did NOT foresee:
* That many different types of dragons in one area. (How do that many apex predators live off of one village's livestock?)
* Why Vikings? I know Scandinavian mythology has draconic elements, but for a lot of those designs I would have gone with a Germanic or British setting.
I did like the analysis of flight mechanics and such, was honestly surprised to see a discussion of dragon aeronautical function in a children's movie. Also liked that while the protagonist was initially presented as a weak, scrawny nerd, the movie did not see him suddenly shed that image and become a strong, buff hero; he prevailed by being both kind-hearted and as much of a nerd as possible. I'm kinda tired of movies portraying nerdhood as a bad thing that the hero has to overcome.

I'm excited for the movie as well...
Though I might want to mention that there is a series of books that you could read that are similar/related to the movie and series.

Re: HTTYD 2
The HTTYD book is different from the movie. They took the movie in a whole other direction. But the book is enjoyable on it's own.
I went to see HTTYD 2 this past Friday. I won't say much about it until I know y'all have seen it too. It was good, but I honestly didn't think it held up to the first one though. My fiance disagrees with me though.
