Dragons Nocturnal cave dwellers?

The theory has been pondered before, but I thought I'd give it another go around since a lot of you proubly don't remember.

There's an argument that the reason we don't see dragons as much as other things is because they are nocturnal creatures that live in caves underwater, and up in the montains where very few people would care to go, or be able to go for that matter. Which makes it easy for them to hide.

It would be very smart for them to do so anyways. people don't build towns near caves in the montains, or go underwater much, and lets face it, Humans don't have very great night vision to acount for anything. This theory is quite plausible if you really think about it. But as always I enjoy hearing the opinoins of others so fire away!

Dragons are often mentioned living in caves.
By nocturnal and living underground, do you mean they live in the caves and come out at night?
If that is true, shouldn't we have seen them at least once in modern times? Bats for example, live underground at day but can still be seen near dusk or dawn or at night.

Or living completely underground? If they live completely underground, they would probably have some adaptations to cave-life...

When I was doing some research for a story, I found this site.
Troglobites and Stygobites: Animals adapted to live entirely in caves are called troglobites or stygobites. Troglobites and stygobites cannot survive above ground. They have adaptations to help them find food, avoid predators, and complete their life cycles in the total darkness of the caves. These adaptations include long antennae and vibration sensory organs, a good sense of smell, long fins or legs, smaller bodies than surface species, low metabolic rates, few eggs, and a long life span. Some have little or no pigmentation and smaller or no eyes in the adult stages. Examples of troglobites include cave millipedes, some beetles and cave spiders. Stygobites include blind crayfish, blind cavefish, blind cave salamanders and cave shrimp.

I think it was more like they came out way late at night, and stick close to the places surounding their caves or something. I've heard of what yur talking about though. The stuff like the blind fish and and bugs that never come out of caves.

I voted none but I don't think it's stupid :)

There's a whole range of habitats for inhabitance, not just caves.

Yeah, it would be a lot harder to keep hiden in anywhere besides in the mountains or the ocean,or in icelands, or forests and stuff. Where do you think would e the most likely place to find them?

I'm going to be sarcastic first and say a town

But mmhm, I'd say rainforests are also pretty hard to search. And locations like the Arctic

well, has anyone read the dragon chronicles? they are fiction, but it's possible that where they placed the dragons is true. The dragons used to live with humans, but were driven out and live in the far, far north, in underground caverns that are heated by geysers and the dragons do come out for hunting, but they mostly live in the caverns.

I think it's more likely to find them in the Antartic, or northern Russia myself. I mean, those are the only uninhabited places on earth, besides the deep ocean and a few mountain ranges, but those are somewhat visable, especially the oceans, as people are highly attracted to beaches.

Or maybe they could be living near humans because it is where no rational human would search.

Maybe they were driven to extinction in the 1700s by glory hungry knights.

They aren't otherwise we would be able to see them. People would panic and shoot at them.
