I imagine it really wouldn't work quite as well with cats as dogs, but still...

I saw a cat use a toilet once...

Cats are smart. Dogs are stupid. What's more to say?

my dog is a catnapper she chased off a mother cat and brought the kitten home to me and wanted to keep it for her own pet.

Sil, I believe you are confused. Dogs are smart. They buddied up to us humans thousands of years before cats 'cause dogs had the foresight to realize that someday we would buy them their own pizzas.

However, cats are good. On rye with lots of catsup.

Dogs buddied up to us because we scared them. Cats just watched us and thought about food and naps.

Cats are smarter than humans. Have humans coerced another species into feeding them, taking care of them, tending to their every need, and all in all, pampered them while imagining that they somehow benefit?

Of the choice from cat or dog, I would have to say cat.

But the smartest pet is the bird. Just how many cats or dogs know how to work a padlock.

So it's decided, then. Dogs are stupid. Not bad pets, but stupid ones.

if dogs are so stupid why do I have to put a lock on my gate to keep my dog from working the latch and letting her self out all the time.

Good for you, you answered your own question.

I'm not arguing: test have been done, results have been studied, dogs ar stupider than cats.

Well the point of which is not being said, both the dog and cat are smart. Most all animals show some intelligence. It is just that some have a easier time showing it.

if you will allow me to jump in.....

there is no point truly, it's a realization that occured while a bored being was by a computer. The general section is full of such discussions.

I don't mind them, but I try not to start them. Really, I don't start much around here.

Well, yes, but don't you like hearing me talk about pet-spoiling? I know you do. You know you do. Just accept it.

This is really quite a funny post.....my friend insists that dogs are not stupid, but dopey. Because that makes a lot of sense.

Our cats chase the dog off its food, so who's the smart one there?

the thread is alive again.......

Well I have had another thought here. One thing we need to think of is the difference from wisdom and intelligence. The idea something can be smart, but not have a high wisdom.
