The Stand of the Last Dragon
Across great mountain peaks
A creature desperately seeks
One of his own
But he knows that he is alone
For he is the very last
Many memories haunt him from his past
How bravely he had fought
His survival, last thought.
All of them he had tried to save
The weapons and destruction came in one great wave
Sharp points that pierced through heart and chest
Even though he had tried his very best.
The few survivors wee put in chains
Oh how great was his pain
The brightness slowly faded from their eyes
A part of him, with them, dies
Taking flight to pursue
He now knows what he must do.
To avenge his kind and his lost mate
He was determined that it was his fate.
Hunting in both sun and gloom
The solders could feel eminent doom.
For many moons he tracked
And finally he attacked!
He was once both wise and tame
Now no one could control his flame.
In his heart was misery and sorrow
Swelling with each pierce of an arrow
All were defeated, His task finally done
He smiled peacefully as he watched the setting sun
The spirits of those lost appeared before his eyes
As the last of his kind, He proudly dies.
His kind is gone for he was the last dragon
It is very hard to imagine
That he fought so bravely knowing he was the last
Knowing his memory, too, will fade into the past.
