Interesting question. I would guess verbal, since that is simpler and more likely, but it could go either way. Telepathy has its ups and downs, but would make communication faster.

verbal because of one of the FACTS science proved was that humanity ( today ) only uses about 5% of their brains. if a dragon is more intelligent they would be able to use ( at most) 7% of their brains. yes that is a very small number but that 2% more is allot more than we will ever have until at least another 1-2 thousand years.

question is, would they speak a language we speak or do they speak their own?

As I said in our pm communication drakel the reason we only us 5% is because if we used more we would have to take control of one of our automatic functions. As to the question i would say telepathy since most of the people that actively use this forumshot down the idea of human speech by dragons. The reason that matters is because the greatest wizard to ever live, merlin, was said to have beaten the dragons in a riddle contest

I will admit that we use the rest of our brain for actions. But who ses we can't learn how to use more of our brain. as you well know there is a huge gap of our brain that we don't use yet we want to use it. That is what I am saying.

I personly disagree with that statement!

How can you disagree????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!! Scientists have figured out that we only use 5% of out brain because the other 95 is being used to control things like heart beat and digestion and breathing!!!!!!!!

actualy it is 90 not 95.

95% in all
90% for actions
5% for brain we use
5% extra brain space to learn better.

Well back to subject. Yea they would be able to communicate. Most of the animals in the world communicate in some way or other. Whales have their song, wolfs howl, birds sing, and bees dance. Why not have a way they "speak" to one another.

As for what they talk about is what I think the big debate is about.

If dragons do not communicate telepathy then they probably use latin or greek and the script to go with it

Why would they speak any human language. And why something as new as Latin. It would be a "language" of their own, something we would not understand. Like the whale song, we have recorded a lot of them and can tell about changes in them. But we have no idea what they are saying.

then explain the legend that merlin is the only being to have ever beat a dragon in a riddle contest. By the way the riddle he used was said to have been this

It is cold and it is hot.
It is white ad it is dark.
It is stone and it is wax.
It's true nature is of flesh,
and it's color red

with the answer being the human heart

So you use a mythic person to explain why a mythic creature can speak Old English.

Another problem is I don't think a dragon would have the physical ability to make the same sounds as we do to speak a human language.

*Still I am on the other side of the fence here, I am one of the few on the page who sees dragons as a mythic creature. So on that note why not, mythic creatures have no limits.*

both.....

If dragons are a myth. I don't see why would not learn to speak. Most mythic creatures can speak.

If they are a true creature. I don't think they can "speak" a human tongue. Though some birds can say a few words in some languages it is far from speaking. Maybe a dragon can learn sign language like Koko did.

The same way I would explain their underwater kingdoms. And why they don't have the same number of toes. And other stuff like that. We only have stories, and word of mouth about that.

I am looking at what we know about creatures now, and comparing to what we can workout with the myths. As posted only a few birds have learned some words, most of which are only a few hundred. Speech is an amazing thing, our throats are made just right to make sounds like words.

Not to mention vamp we are discussing dragons because we have stories and no proof. Not to mention, thank you for reminding me that the chinese mention an underwater city because that helps further the atlantis theory
