Also it can be said: large cats, birds of pray, and large snakes. (This is taken from that Quest of Dragons I posted about.)
large cats: Most traditional dragons are shown with the face towards you, and may be a subconscious draw back to the sight of when we were pray to large cats. With its mouth open to attack.
birds of pray: The same as above but with the taloned feet grabbing at us.
large snakes: Also as above. But the snake would rise to attack giving the either long neck look or the serpentine like body.
But if you do want to pull science into the game, they are dinosaurs. Remember very few full skeletons of dinosaurs have been found. So if someone found a large bone they had to fill in the rest. This is also where giants and other creatures of myth came from.

In truly scientific terms, a dragon is simply a creature of legend. No more mention than that...

What would the scientific name of a dragon be? I guess that would depend on abilities, style ( European, Chinese, ect.) and what planet he/she/it hails from...

I'm too lazy to do that.
Instead, each time I get online, I just go up to the URL bar, type in google's adress, type in "dragons" click on the third link from the top, click on the link it gives me, click on message boards, and taa-daa, the lazy way to do it...
Please people, don't tell me that it's more work than to just save it to favorites. I know that, and obviously you do too. I just want to save YOU the embarassment of sounding stupid...
Sounding stupid is MY job...
