ISSUE OF THE WEEK: 12/21/12 - WILL IT HAPPEN?

Will it happen or will we have the technology to beat it, plus we have the best defense, JUPITER!

It really depends on what happens in the next six years.... If the U.S. goes into anouther deppresion I doubt we would have the money to fund a full scale operation to destroy the comet

or if the U.S. is destroyed in world war III it definitly won't happen!!

Or we may not even see it coming and wake up in infinity....

You know whay I think? I think that when that day comes the world will continue to spin and life will go on. Mankind and beast alike will go on about their lives like they did today.

Technically Im a rebel, and I beleive that the end of life as we know it will never come. Technology will become more advanced and mankind and beast will continue to thrive until time indefinite.

This world may be ignorent of the rest of the galaxy but the laws of physics still apply..... Just because you cover your eyes and hide in the corner, it doesn't make you invisible....

I, personally, think that the world will be stupid enough to fire nuclear missiles at this comet, destroying it. Then, we will all die from a giant fall-out.

Or we will mutate!!! <sorry couldn't resist conspiricy

Some of us could survive in a bunker.... maybe.....

Actually, radiation doesn't mutate the one exposed. It either kills you or affects your offspring.

And I suppose a few could survive in a bunker...but they'd have to keep it secret or the whole world would want to get in it. Also, do you know how much food and water you'd need for (example: 7) people to survive a fall-out from enough nuclear missiles to destroy a comet large enough to destroy the Earth (I hope you understood that, I couldn't find a better way to phrase it)?

Personally I think that its to far away to tell, but overall think it WONT happen. First, we are to assume that in six years something wont happen to change this comet's course, that it wont hit another planet, and that we wont figure out someway to stop it be it nukes or just huge ass missiles....I think thats bull....I dont have any worry about it at all.

Well I will write that on your tombstone.... <hehe>

I think William Wallace will help us. You know him. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse. He can stop what ever will happen.

But in a place I call "the real world" everything will go on as normal. Yes people will die that day but people are dieing today too.

And why should we do anything else? I haven't died yet, try though I may. Perhaps I'm invincible. Oh, well. So, who likes cheese? Did you know that (Cheese+Llama)/Porn=Fred? Neither did I. We wouldn't all die from raiation poisoning because if we did use nukes to stop a comet, we would do so far enough away that none of the residual radiation ever got to Earth. You see? No? Oh, well.

actually some of the pieces would reach earth because of three things....

A) no friction in space

B)Earth has a gravitational pull

C) Since when have modern humans been smart enough to check on the universe after all there is a tenth planet

Of course there are more than 9 planets! There are probably THOUSANDS more that have yet to be discovered.

I may have missed it by not paying attention (I know it's hard to believe, me not paying attention. But shockingly enough, there have been reported incidents of it) but what is this 12/21/12 you guys are talking about???

The end of the Mayan Calender and apparently the end of the world....

well by that time we may just have portable thrusters that we can lock onto the comet and fire them up and send the comet elsewere. just a thought.

Did you notice that there hasn't been a new invention for almost fifty years?? I think humans have reached their limit......

Give them some credit. They gave us video games (which have, by the way, come out in the past 50 years)...

They're just...in a shlump right now...

And having read that, screw the mayans. What could they possibly know? They're dead...

There have so been new inventions, plenty of them. Not really very large scale ones, but they're there. Someone could have invented a new way to do something, or some such. I agree with Firuweata, about the Mayans.

He's not dead. Didn't you hear? He got back up.

has anyone here thought the Mayans might have meant 1812 or 1912?
