What do you think?

I think that people should create an authentic charecter for each RP. True it will take more time, but it would make each RP authentic and would not tie one RP to another.
So lets say I make this really great RP based in a brand new world, where bunches of people join, but all of them, except me, copy their charecters from other RPs. New people would think that this new world had some sort of intergalactic travel depot on it that people from all over the universe came to.
Does anyone besides feel the same way? Post your reply and tell why you think that way.

Your character should fit the storyline so you don't copy it directly.... That is an unfair question. It really depends on the situation...

yeha like what if the story you made is right after the story events of the player?

With the exception of sequel rps, which are basically a continuation of the same story(with differences such as different perspective, different goal, etc), different characters should be created for different rps. If you recycle the character it not only takes away from your character's originality but it also downgrades the rp to become a fanfic rp of the one which your character was originally created for.
Rping is a lot like writing a book. And if the same character was used in two completely different books (ie, if Harry Potter showed up in LOTR) then folks would cry plagarism. Rping doesn't have those rules, but it still takes something away from the creativity.
Not to mention what it does to the character. The character when used again changes from someone with a personality, a history, an essence, who could exist if magic or whatever were real into a recycable piece of trash. The attachment, at least for me, suddenly disappears.

It's still possible to create other characters based off you. Change the history and what they want from life and you'll find that has a big effect on their personality to the point where they are completely different people though they have the same personality model.

I love creating characters. I may have near to two hundred some odd characters sitting around my room in books and folders. And these are pen and paper characters too. Rolling dice for each and coming up with a new background for each. The best thing about role playing is playing a "not you" character. But that is just me.

i basically keep the same character because she (MAry Ann) is alot like me. i do change her background/history so she is different but there are some things that i like to keep(i.e. Faring(familiar), power over viod, grew up on her own a lot) only cause it defines her and is part of me. its not like im copying cause im lazy, this way im able to get a better rping experience(if u would call it that).
